Aww, come on. This is what gamers call Griefing.. read the VMware forums where they say something like:

"... it's easy for users to get a free Oracle (XE) for evaluation purposes..."

Interesting how you bash a first version who's goal is to get out the door as quick as VMware can. No where in the release notes does the VMware Linux vCenter say it is fully released or has functionality with MySQL & PostGreSQL.

Yes, VMware says that this is not fully ready and is limited to only Oracle support. They are going to evaluate and move to adding in support for one of the two major free DBs to make the appliance fully license free. That takes time and money. If you'd like to pony up some fundage I'm sure that would help move this along. Instead of down playing a tool that has the right idea, look at what it does good.

Edward,

I really don't understand this article and where it's coming from. Shankar already explained in the topic you opened on the communities why it's not available at this point in time and that VMware is looking into this: http://communities.vmware.com//thread/195905?tstart=0

For everyone else interested in testing vCenter Server for Linux, you can use a free version of Oracle Express to get this technology preview(!) working by the way:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/xe/index.html

I do agree with you that vCenter for Linux could use at least PostgreSQL support. There's definitely no reason to discuss a conspiracy theory especially because it's a preview which is usually limited in support and options.

Hi,

Interesting read.
Some side notes tough: Oracle Express edition does exist no license fee there.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/xe/index.html

You could argue that this somehow against the linux free spirit but as u are already using proprietary software (vmware) , i think you won't mind.

Of course choice is always better then being forced to use a specific product.

Maybe they need a little more time.

regards
