Transcendental Meditation is a technique and a technique by definition is not capable of being a cult. You must be referring to the TM Movement, people say all kinds of things about all kinds of organizations. One does not have to be a member of the TM movement in order to benefit from practicing TM. After just a few lessons the student never need contact anyone within the TM movement again. I learned 5 years ago and have never been contacted to contribute or do anything else for the movement. My life has improved due to TM, and I do not consider myself part of the movement. To anyone that is interested in learning more just visit a TM Center and do the research for yourself. Happy Meditation!

Many critics consider Transcendental Meditation a cult founded by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. For an alternative view of the TM Movement, readers may be interested in checking out TM-Free Blog, TranceNet.net, or my counseling site, Knapp Family Counseling, where individuals recovering from Transcendental Meditation and similar groups will find helpful information.
