Looking forward to 2020

Looking forward to 2020, what positive advances may be achieved? When thinking about how quality and value may become increasingly intrinsic and pervasive, feel free to draw on a range of input (e.g., perhaps including Tools of Engagement, TelePresence and so on, perhaps even Star Trek 2009).

Green, Fiction or Fact

When determining Green fact or fiction there may be value to looking in on what Gartner has to say, or in digging through an ITtoolbox CIO Knowledge Base, or in exploring BusinessInnovation and what may be included for “using IT as a catalyst to succeed”, or in using a calculator (e.g., perhaps from Nortel) to determine your possible energy efficiency savings, or in reading a free report within ITBusinessEdge, or in various ways to exploring GreenerComputing and “resources for environmentally responsible computing”.

In the past number of months of the current year has your Green movement (IT and corporate in general) made significant progress? For example perhaps progress relative to discerning Green fact from fiction. Ideally your efforts (and the efforts of many including hardware and other vendors) will increasingly bring about improved clarity and positive results that are progressively and continually more intrinsic and pervasive before, by and beyond 2020.

Thank you for all you do; and for helping the world increasingly become one on matters of high purpose. Green IT and beyond!

Earlier this year, Garner Inc. highlighted 10 key predictions that would affect IT and business decisions in 2008 and beyond. Three of the items on the list were:

  • “By 2009, more than one-third of IT organizations will have one or more environmental criteria in their top six buying criteria for IT-related goods.”
  • “By 2010, 75 percent of organizations will use full lifecycle energy and CO2 footprint as mandatory PC hardware buying criteria.”
  • “By 2011, suppliers to large global enterprises will need to prove their green credentials via an audited process to retain preferred supplier status.” 1

A new Internet record

Did Oprah’s first webcast class of “A New Earth, Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose”, set a new World Wide Web record? 1,860,000 streamed or downloaded it within 1 week. Have you listened to the Flavor of Life? Many likely have not; however click the link and look at the numbers reported by Wikipedia about the Flavor of Life, and then imagine the potential of the Internet and the new records and improvements to quality of life that could be related before, by and beyond 2020. For example, imagine how the United Way is and can be increasingly enabled by software, technology, information, the Internet, and pros and public coming together increasingly as one to be of help to others. This way, this unified hand, could potentially increasingly enable harmonization around initiatives of high purpose. In general a united way is a good way. It can increasingly enable a helping unified hand with far positive reach. In any event, some good news reported today by Tony Bradley (see: Microsoft and Nortel Strengthen UC Partnership; IBM Pledges $1 Billion Investment in Unified Communications). A positive open unified interoperability of people and machines is on the rise and may even lead to unimagined goodness from various perspectives.

Thinking about the value of unified communications

It may be interesting to think about the value inherent to all that may relate to the concept of unification. At minimum you may like to do some thinking about the value of unification as it specifically relates to unified communications.  To do so you may like to visit this new site, SearchUnifiedCommunications.com. You may also like to read an 01.21.08 article by Gary Audin (he has more than 40 years of computer, communications and security experience; he has planned, designed, specified, implemented and operated data, LAN and telephone networks… this has included local area, national and international networks, as well as VoIP and IP convergent networks, in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia and Asia).

What the tech?

Software Quality, Inherent Quality, Skype

Viewed today on G4techTV (more info here): Cape Breton (NS) caller via Skype to TheLab, asked about Wi-Fi with Ubuntu challenge he was having; X-Play winner for best game of the year 2007 was BioShock. Accepting the award for the latter, the lead designer expressed that gamers are interested in thinking and in more than just blowing things up. For gamers and others out there (e.g., cast of The IT Crowd), here are a few things to perhaps think about: Will violent games and videos make a future world that is more violent? Will TV in future award IT Pros in many more categories and will this include various social responsibility awards given to those who in someway give positive energy towards a notion of continually making a better world? What the tech is next in a world interconnected by software, technology and information? Will it somehow help to improve the quality of life for all?

Earn points

Software Quality, Inherent Quality, Skype

I twisted a knee yesterday (a sign of good luck perhaps), so today I was giving the leg rest while recharging in general from many months (years in fact) of steady long hours any day of the week. To staff at AYR, I hope you had a productive day. I will see you again tomorrow.

On a separate note, today I logged-in to Skype to call a friend to ask a favor. I wanted my friend to take a moment to run a few unplanned tests on a beta product. I used Skype for the call. There were 10,214,000+ online.

Grow

Software Quality, Inherent Quality, Skype

This post earlier in the month mentioned Skype. At the time well over eight million were online. Today there was well over nine million online. Software, Technology and Information are changing the world. The interconnected universe of IT Pros and the general public, that is continually being shaped by the same, is enabling (and continually will enable) rapid upward and inward growth. In the process of change and growth, all can contribute to increasingly making the world a better place. Please help to do so. Thank you in advance for your on-going contributions to increasingly beam viip (value-inherent, intrinsic and pervasive) throughout the world for all, for everyone. Grow and help all others to grow along with you.

Take a deep breath, connect with millions or even billions

Open your mind. Get comfortable. Put on your thinking cap. Connect. Be part of the sea, sky and interconnected universe. For example, download and use Skype. It is quick and easy to get started. Make your own fun with this valuable and simple to use product. It is also now mobile and calling your world is free. I just signed in and well over eight million people were online. Perhaps you are already one of them. This is not hype and one way to give and receive positive energy is to do it through the cloud and related creations such as Skype. One way to do it is through sharing. For example class data sharing. The Java powered Internet is available and Java is found everywhere - on mobile phones, desktop computers, Blu-ray Disc players, set top boxes, and even in your car. Seek and Find ethical and innovative ways to share positive energy with others. Inherently the Internet has tremendous potential to help humanity take amazing forward leaps. Take a deep breath. Connect with millions and even billions.

IT Cowboy

This article from WindowsITPro (Connecting the IT Community) says “Almost all small businesses have been burnt by an IT cowboy. The IT cowboy says that they can fix a problem with a server, but leave more of a mess than where they started.”

The post you are presently reading says enjoy life, celebrate living, enjoy the weekend and everyday and give positive energy to others. Much thanks to the many for many long hours spent consistently helping to make the internet an enriching positive space of creative collaborative sharing.

Future VIIP posts will aim to showcase others and to freely share awareness and thoughts on some related internet discoveries. For example the first minute of this video grabs attention while the remaining minutes should have placed a nicer light on some very talented contributors to the on-going evolution of IT. As a second example this brief show is powerful and it is important that each of us try to do something that might potentially benefit our family including our parents and relatives and children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. If each of us is thinking at least a few generations out and from a perspective of trying to help make the world a better place overall, then just maybe we can help make the world a better place for all within the generations to come. When you leave this world you will feel better for having done so. Hopefully you can see this now and will join in being part of something larger than yourself that is an evolving solution of solutions that advocate sharing, giving positive energy and inherently trying to help make the world progressively better.

Enjoy the fun VoIP as you are clip from Microsoft and do what you can in a positive way to beam viip into the positive steps and leaps of others. Hope you also enjoy these safe and meaningful messages provided by Scott Martineau (1, 2, 3).

All the best!

Imagine

VoIP, Software Quality, Inherent Quality, Fun

Imagine a future where all touched by software, technology and information increasingly come together and continually amplify positive energy and progressively ensure higher levels of fun and value. Inherently quality works. As more read, think and act they will give positive energy to others who give positive energy back. This will build positive energy. It will amplify among and within. As more do this the global community will not only take steps but leaps to further be one and more easily achieve challenges. Open your mind. Read, think and dream. Evolving quality to be more so in-built will convert costs, increase savings and generate unimagined levels of ROI and VOI.

Imagine perfect vision leap year 2020. Will all retail be enabled for mobile purchases such as via ecommerce sites surfed via cells phones? Imagine a mobile VoIP call with a sales consultant and with online bidding and buying all handled with the same phone during the same call. What will you buy this way in the future? Perhaps in this manner you will buy electronics, appliances or furniture. Imagine the improvements. Reaching a global market, increasing customer satisfaction, buying from socially responsible organizations, reducing time and money required to bring product from far away to a store or warehouse. Imagine increased drop shipping and more just in time manufacturing. Imagine increased use of standard bar coding, EDI and custom orders. Thanks to software, technology, information and highly creative resources the future is poised for major change and improvement. If you can see into the future you will realize now that this is so and start now to beam viip increasingly into each step you take that is associated with journeys of few to thousands of miles. According to Gartner there will be more than 30 million internet phone lines in use by 2009 (e.g.). This is of course old news now but certainly this is only going to increase by 2020. So too will the many related opportunities thanks to many who will continue to creatively mature and innovatively embed a mindset for quality, value, excellence and simplicity.
