Here is another example of fellowship, the global efforts of a consortium, such as one related to XBRL, an internationally recognized standard for electronic business and financial reporting. This April 3, 2008 Zorba.ca post says the new website by RR Donnelley and Edgar Online provides complimentary access to over 12000 US filers, and is definitely worth some time browsing and testing. If you Try XBRL feel free to write a related comment or post; thank you for doing so.

Global Free Trade

Posted by: viip
Business, Government, IT, Inherent Quality, Software Quality, Alliance, Fellowship

March, a month that implies action, rising, new life, beginning again. This month and onwards as the world marches towards 2020, will there be greater forms of collaboration and teamwork? Will greater alliances bring greater fellowship? Perhaps strong reactions will somehow help to enable expanded thinking about the possibilities of new or enhanced agreements for greater levels of Global Free Trade. Will the world increasingly come together (pros and public) to increasingly address matters of high purpose to continually make things better? For the benefit of all, will forgiveness, compassion, love and belief (e.g., in oneness), increasingly free egos, lift fun and value, and celebrate life within the interconnected universe during March and April, and onwards to 2020 and beyond?

Today is the start of a festival in Ireland where over 1 million will celebrate for five days culminating on Monday March 17 with a world famous St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Ideally the green luck of St. Patrick will help everyone find the pots of gold awaiting them at the end of the revelation rainbow. Echoed below are a few words from an earlier post. Ideally they help somehow to increasingly evolve quality and value.

“it just may be that important functions are not wholly internal to your organization, as a friend of a friend once suggested the offshoot (global chief knowledge officer) of his Chief Technology Officer role was”

“To advance knowledge, related to various important topics such as ethics, the future needs important functions to be more so and increasingly intrinsic and pervasive, so knowledge is shared more so within and external to many organizations. In this way, all shall more so gain. In this way, there more so will be a rebuilding of worth (individual and universal) to greater upwards and inwards dimensions within people, within products, within processes and so on, including relative to rebuilding the capacity for intelligent collaboration within and throughout our world and universe.”

Tsunami Bulletin Number 001, 03 March 2008

Posted by: viip
Inherent Quality, Software Quality, Government, Fellowship

Last year the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization) announced the availability of a number of fellowships with an objective to further encourage particular work. The document was titled: Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning System Fellowship programme in sea level science and applications 2007-2008. The related site (now old) currently says a transition to a new website is taking place and the old site will no longer be operational as of 29 February 2008.

On the new site, there is information about a 03 March 2008 6.9 earthquake in the Philippine Islands region. Fortunately the evaluation within Tsunami Bulletin Number 001 is that no destructive widespread Tsunami threat exists based on historical earthquake and Tsunami data. There is a “however” however, “earthquakes of this size sometimes generate local Tsunamis that can be destructive along coasts located within a hundred kilometers of the earthquake epicenter. Authorities in the region of the epicenter should be aware of this possibility and take appropriate action.”

Ideally the software, technology and information associated with the new “Unified Tsunami Website” will help save lives. This post takes no credit, however says thank you to those involved in the creation and update of the new unified site, and in the creation, deployment and management of related technologies and information. The related work can help to save hundreds of thousands of lives, or more, in one single successful early warning.

Budget 2008 and the road ahead for more true global fellowship

Posted by: viip

March is a month whose name implies action, so this post is a trek into Canada’s Budget 2008 and thoughts of the road ahead for more true global fellowship.

This post is perhaps part of a start of a progressive march into uncertainty with increasingly smarter government, global cooperation and balance. As an initial step, think of what it means, or should mean, to be human. Next think of the term fellowship; for example as analogous to funding, however also as analogous to effectively working together, such as people effectively working together, and such as machines and people working effectively together, and such as the intrinsic and pervasive aspects of software and technology architectures doing the same. In our interconnected universe, what you do can make a difference; so too can increased unity, especially when increasingly combined with diversity. Fortunately there is growing support and evidence for collaboration, convergence, unification and simplification from various perspectives. Fortunately this is beginning to show more so within thoughts (i.e., within the individual and shared thinking of people, organizations, communities and governments). However, imagine the pure potentiality of the same throughout the world relative to increasingly working well together. Imagine how this may improve the budget of any country, and when the planet operates more as one, how this may improve the world.

Below are a few words from the Budget 2008 speech by Canada’s Minister of Finance delivered to the House of Commons on Feb 26, 2008 (full version here). A related article on the web (National Post) is, “Budget 2008 an uninspiring cure for insomnia”. Imagine how growing a fellowship of public and pros (IT and other) could enable unprecedented positive results. Imagine the collective energy, the collective imagination, the collective innovation, the collective benefits, the collective wisdom. Imagine the new dimensions of peace (value) and joy (quality) that inherently would materialize for the benefit of all in this generation and those of the future. March is a time for all to begin again, fresh, new, springing forward. A time to really start a forward thinking march for greater awakening. If more put their heads together, as well as their hearts together, it just may be possible for people to enable what seems impossible and truly wonderful. Imagine all having their hard earned money back while having tax free savings without limits. Imagine global economic prosperity, better services, and greater peace and joy. Of course the type of mindset change required, for such wonderful things to be reality, will not occur overnight. With enough collective positive energy wonderful possibilities may however come true, and sooner rather than later. Now is the time to really start a march towards something unprecedented and truly worthwhile… something life evolving, something that elevates life. Every country has challenges (including for Canada such things as the Minister of Finance noted: the economy slow down of our biggest trading partner, the U.S.; volatility in global financial markets; struggling economy sectors; slow economic growth projections for coming years), so the world must think differently as the only way the world is really going to make tremendous forward leaps is through radical paradigms shifts from the edge of rational collective imagination and innovation. Among other it is nice to see that Budget 2008 aims to further address matters pertaining to infrastructure, health, education and so on, including the need for increased research and innovation, and including the need to further tackle high purposes (e.g., environmental stewardship, and homelessness). Still more must be done, or one day everyone could be homeless. An evolution of global proportion is needed. Ideally the Internet will be an on-going tremendous help. Ideally more will awaken to their life’s purpose. Ideally a 2020 global vision will result in tremendous gains before, by and beyond the leap year of 2020.

There is evidence of a continually emerging change of mindset, and of a new worldview. And there is an essential critical need for all to be —increasingly— advocates, catalysts, enablers and solution architects for it, from a worldwide perspective, not simply organization or country perspectives. Thank you for all you do.

Global IT Consortium

Borenstein, one of the original designers of the MIME protocol, for sending multimedia Internet electronic mail, once apparently essentially said that computer professionals cause accidents, and that most experts agree the most likely way for the world to be destroyed is by accident. Well, given this post on Internet Evolution, US is in danger of losing Internet leadership, one might wonder how this foremost U.S. advanced networking consortium may change that. One may also wonder what impact the result of the U.S. Election may have on ensuring the safe and continual growth of valuable manifestations of the worldwide computerized society. Research shows positive mind shifts are taking hold (for example relative to the environment), however more must be done and it is now truly time to increasingly move forward to real smart Government and thoughts which draw from pros and public and explore how might balance be further improved as a result of continual inquiries into quality, value, excellence, simplicity, and how transparency may be further increased. Perhaps this is a topic for Governments in general and should be tabled at the next summit involving true worldwide representation and fellowship. One item that is certain is that now more than ever it is time to globally give it ( IT ) the extra degree by going to and beyond 212, and increasingly banning together more as one global consortium to ensure tremendous leaps forward by 2020. IT must increasingly be an enabler of a new revelation that among other promotes better ensuring: positive climate change; a significant reduction to the cost of errors; the emergence of true global economic prosperity; the ultimate achievement of sustainable worldwide peace and equality concurrent with greater levels of education, health, wellness and joy for all of humanity.

This is not the last VIIP post for February 2008…  more fun to come. For a bit of fun in the meantime, see this post on Overheard in the tech blogosphere.

Open thinking, about balance, and smart Government

Posted by: viip
Inherent Quality, Software Quality, Government, Fellowship, Forrester

Today is perhaps a good day for some open thinking, about balance, and smart Government.

“Balance”, this is a word that can be applied in ways, or from many perspectives. For example, relative to a particular person’s balance within life, or relative to ensuring effective types of balance within roles and responsibilities, within a company, within a country, within an industry, within the global society, and so on, such as through sharing loads between resources and particular types of technology. In many ways “balance” is an important word, and as stated in IQS101, true universal fellowship starts with it.

One way to achieve balance to greater dimensions is to increase transparency, such as through “Open” sharing or initiatives. As stated by Liz Barnett in 2004 within “Applying Open Source Processes In Corporate Development Organizations“, increasing transparency is a good idea.

Firms should increase transparency — the visibility of the project information to people who aren’t team members — to improve coordination and help increase productivity. Increased transparency can also improve the accountability and the performance of individual employees by providing a documented workflow and a basis for feedback. Leading development organizations know that disclosure improves business relationships and will communicate select information about project progress to customers.

Moving forward to “smart” Government, how might balance be further improved, as a result of continual inquiries into quality, value, excellence, simplicity and how transparency may be further increased?

Feel free to positively comment on this, to think about lessons from the heart, and to watch for an upcoming VIIP post. Hoping for a bit of Good Luck, a future one may share some related positive thoughts, insights and wisdom from a VIIP and IQS reader within the National Institute for Smart Government. Perhaps this is a topic for Governments in general and should be tabled at the next summit involving worldwide representation.

From Big Blue to individuals like you, open minded progress is inherently making things better

Posted by: viip
Inherent Quality, Software Quality, IBM, OpenID, Fellowship

Back in October ‘07 this post, Make it better, provided several links while promoting the notion of all expanding freely, living with passion, increasingly supporting concepts for a more open office and moving quickly toward the third-decade of the Web (2010-2020). If you have been following the industry progress already only a few months later you may be progressively starting to see and say, wow. Indeed the world is getting smaller while benefits increasingly have greater opportunity to emerge to higher degrees with less risk.

Organizations and individuals are working heroically harder and smarter at helping you take back control of your architecture. One such organization is naturally IBM which helps you collaborate globally, and unify and simplify development through usage of a complete set of tools (see webcast as example). Way back on the 10th of September ‘07, Big Blue of course announced that it was joining the OpenOffice community, pledging to contribute code and other resources to an eight-year-old open source project. The future is in the present, heck it is even in the past; in the present however it exists as a result of individuals and the efforts of many, and also thanks to some of the biggest names in the industry really starting to join in support (e.g., of things like OpenID). It is very promising and interesting to think how far advanced the future will be as the world continues to evolve and then begins to enter the perfect vision leap year of (and more so with) 2020. The combined effort of many has the potential to empower others, particularly the consumer. This is an example of progress that is helping to continually take quality, value, excellence and simplicity to unimagined paradigms on route to increasingly making it ( IT Joy) an intrinsic and pervasive positive manifestation within software, technology, information and life (and all that is increasingly becoming associated with a growing force of good and the emerging universal computerized fellowship of pros and public).

From Big Blue to individuals like you, passion and open minded progress is innately making things better. This post takes no credit, however extends a Thank You to all for all you do to beam the world increasingly toward a future history that is bright for all.

For those who think quality is a fad, it is high time you awaken the joy within. Perhaps reading IQS will help you do this. The circles, levels, waves and dimensions are continually changing and evolving inwards, upwards and outwards taking the benefits to deeper, higher and wider degrees of value, excellence and simplicity. Part of the solutions for making things better, and increasingly surpassing the tremendous responsibilities and opportunities that IT has, will increasingly be related to the growth of a universal profession, as well as the growth of fellowship within the profession and with the general worldwide public.

A culture of practice and sharing is progressively evolving. Within it, increasingly man, woman, and even the embedded architecture and code of machines, will embark on a logical, rational, and critical mission to continually make things better.

The word for today, and for the years to 2020 and beyond…

Posted by: viip
Inherent Quality, Software Quality, Security, Internet Evolution, Fellowship, ITKE

The search for wisdom, intelligence, knowledge, inner joy and universal fellowship may be a quest that takes you to visiting various dimensions of the interconnected universe of the Internet. Your close encounters with the Internet’s third kind may increasingly help with the acquisition, management and dissemination of knowledge. Each encounter may be part of a growing number of enablers who continually strive to enhance a culture of practice and sharing. As you trek you may discover various innate developments. For example, a white paper about MidMarket organizations really beginning to increasingly deploy virtualization to transform their IT infrastructure and reap the same virtualization benefits of large enterprises. As a second example, a live webcast like this one today about three things you may not know about the PCI DSS and your web application’s security.

In the present time everyone is increasingly expecting access to valuable information, applications and services. As the world continues moving toward 2020, the inherent technological way of life will increasingly be powered by people and machines that continually enable software-intensive systems to be a service to the notion of making things progressively better, for all. Inherently, the evolution of quality, value, excellence and simplicity will increasingly move all to greater awakening and truly dawn an age of universal fellowship, elemental laws, and interconnectedness to the lifestyles of higher beings everywhere.

Evolution of course is a natural on-going process in which all can partake. Perhaps as you do you will earn ITKE points such as by responding to whether IT is a profession or a discipline.

Increasingly IT has the potential to be a significant force for the good of humanity. While clarity may require seeing with more than your eyes, increasingly it is becoming very evident that knowledge, insights, and more, collective wisdom, are progressively evolving inherent to the evolution and growing population of the Internet. To those who create, read and share positively within, thank you. You all deserve points for your posts and comments, and for your responses to particular questions. Now is the time however to really start to think in a direction for increasing the universal fellowship of the net, including having IT Pros increasingly come together with the worldwide general public. Every person has value, and all can contribute to shaping the future of the Internet and the world they live within. Each person is therefore a star within the universe. Some may be waiting to be discovered, however all can humbly strive to manifest their dreams while doing what they can to give back positive energy.

The word for today, and for the years to 2020 and beyond, is Fellowship. Think about it, think about IT; the industry has a tremendous responsibility, and opportunity. Increasingly IT must become a true universal fellowship that is for the benefit of all beings within the interconnected universe. This month (2.08) and progressively to 2020 and beyond, spread love and joy intrinsically to and pervasively from the IT industry.

This post takes no credit for the positive direction the IT industry is heading in, however does send a Thank You to those within Canada, the United States, and other parts of the world such as Africa and India, who have recently requested copies of Inherent Quality Simplicity. Ideally it somehow helps the readers and those they interact with, while promoting a belief in the merits of all increasingly being part of a continual trek to find, creatively mature and innovatively embed bits of innate value and joy within and throughout all persons, creations and interactions.

Reading a SearchSoftwareQuality.Com article, Software development trends in 2008: Outsourcing, agile development (26 Dec 2007), you may venture to reading an article noted within that is from way back in Feb 2007, The state of software quality, part 2: The challenge of building quality into the development life cycle. Within it you may discover this quote, “If you give someone four hours to do an eight-hour job, there’s a limit on what they can do no matter how motivated they are”—Kaner. You may next feel there is some value in the quote and decide you agree to a degree. For example, perhaps commenting along these lines… if you give a person half the time required to do it right, and then distract them during with emergencies, further reducing their time and decreasing their focus, you can expect, short of a miracle or superpowers, that outcomes overall will be less than ideal; even if they have the right attitude, rest and skills. Sure, they might complete deliverables within an allotted window, but they may not have had the luxury of time to consider the impacts of what they quickly produced. Ideally they managed to avoid performance issues, security threats or other matters including serious harm in someway to the world. In any event, their meeting a target date may be far worse than if they just said no to begin with. Anyone who has been around the industry long enough knows that additional resources, methodologies, tools, proper attitude and more are among important or essential items, however when it gets down to well defined requirements and estimates, many start cutting chances of great outcomes very early. Many issues therefore can often be avoided most likely with a simple bit of realism injected into getting the right resources (e.g., people and machines), and allowing the right amount of time, while inherently practicing proactive risk management and sharing positive energy to keep morale high. Of course such things are sometimes easier said than done, and sometimes what it really comes down to is simply, education. For example, those setting the target dates and constraints (e.g., financial), are not always the ones with it [the education, or the essential knowledge]. They are therefore not always the IT Pro, and what more often may be needed is for the Business and IT to become more one, and for both to better educate each other and work more as one. By doing so, and by increasingly also involving the consumers or general public within overall success formulas, they may even discover many more ways to enable increasing levels of inherent quality, value, excellence and simplicity.
