Enhance life

A feeling of profound awe and respect and often love. A complex mental state involving beliefs and feelings and values and dispositions to act in certain ways such as to have an attitude that work was fun. What you have just read are sample definitions for the word reverence. Albert Schweitzer received the 1952 Nobel Peace Prize in 1953 for his philosophy of reverence for life. 1952 was a leap year.

Albert Schweitzer nourished hope in a humankind that is more profoundly aware of its position in the Universe. His optimism was based in belief in truth and his worldview was based on his idea of reverence for life which he believed to be his greatest single contribution to humankind. His view was that Western civilization was in decay because of gradually abandoning its ethical foundation - those of affirmation of life. It was his firm conviction that the respect for life is the highest principle. Here is one of his famous quotes: Reverence for life affords me my fundamental principle of morality, namely that good consists in maintaining, assisting, and enhancing life, and that to destroy, to harm, or to hinder life is evil. I came upon the quote when reading the handbook of software architecture October 23, 2007 post (Debating The Morality Behind Software Development). The related CNET News.com article by Charles Cooper is here. Also see this related Computerworld comment. And here is a piece from an editorial review found on Amazon of Reverence for Life: Albert Schweitzer’s (1875-1965) system of ethical mysticism is based primarily upon Christ’s injunction, “Love the Lord thy God first and they neighbor as thyself.” He writes, “I can do no other than be reverent before everything that is called life. That is the beginning and foundation of all ethics.” Assembled by Meyer (Bible & Christian studies, Chapman Univ.) and the late Bergel (emeritus, Chapman Univ.), founder of the Albert Schweitzer Institute, this eclectic collection of essays is intended as both an appreciation of Schweitzer and a critical review of his ethics and metaphysics. {Just down the page you can also find the following words from the November 5, 2002 review of the book by Midwest Book Review: The Ethics of Albert Schweitzer For The Twenty-First Century is an inherently impressive selection of profound essays by humanitarian Albert Schweitzer, enhanced with an eclectic variety of soul-searching commentaries on his thoughts and recommendations. … Reverence For Life is highly recommended as life-affirming, fundamental and thoughtfully constructed reading.}

“True philosophy must start from the most immediate and comprehensive fact of consciousness: I am life that wants to live, in the midst of life that wants to live.” — Albert Schweitzer

Life and love in Albert Schweitzer view are based on respect for every manifestation of life, and a personal, spiritual relationship towards the universe.

Ideally as the universe increasingly comes together ethically and morally with reverence for life, leaps by 2020 and beyond will continually enhance life.

Aspire

The titles of VIIP posts to this juncture can potentially be read like a paragraph which is capable of being read in either direction. To understand, read each title starting with this post (Aspire) to the last word in the first post (universe), or read each title starting with the first post (Hello world! Greetings universe!) to this one (Aspire). As another example read these post titles in either direction: Dots, Connect; Good, Will. As you look inside to find or dream opportunities note that you may have to think differently. For example, reading left to right and top to bottom is fairly common practice. There are of course language variations and individuals do differ with respect to which side or part of their brain is more frequently used to gather and convert data in a particular order to information or innovation. Especially creative types may even deploy unique methods. Perhaps your brain likes palindromes (words, numbers and phrases that can be read similarly forward and backwards). For example like the palindromic name Stanley Yelnats in the book or movie Holes; or like Eve; or like the following number and phrase palindromes: 8:02 20/February 2002 (20:02 02/20 2002); Madam, I’m Adam; Marge lets Norah see Sharon’s telegram; Lee had a heel. Regardless of the order you read VIIP post titles or content, ideally the main idea will start to become apparent to you.

An important notion has existed for centuries. The associated mindset will and must be increasingly matured and shared by all.

As you look inside from various perspectives you begin to see that quality is simplicity, and said in reverse that simplicity is quality that is inherent. Note however that continually achieving this to higher degrees is likely to be challenging and somewhat complicated. For example, finding simple solutions is actually hard work that likely requires raising topics to further initiate from various perspectives collaborative dialog and sharing. With regards to sharing you may like to post comments on addsimplicity.com relative to these words, I’m sure 2008 will follow several of these trends but will also bring us some interesting surprises. Feel free to share your predictions with comments! You are always also free to blog in general about what you feel are examples today that make quality innate or occur inherently; and about what you feel will more so do this by the year 2020 and beyond.

Aspire! Help evolve quality and value from the inside out and outside in.

Thank you for doing so.

Look inside

Look inside. For example internalize words sung years ago, embed fun, and go your way bringing goodness to the path while progressively encouraging all to contribute. For some this may mean applying or maturing some of the thinking from “Six Billion Ways To Bring Goodness Into Our World, One Person At A Time”. Certainly we all have a share in this world. Certainly it is our universal and sacred responsibility to live with goodness. Find your way to promote goodness. Enable greater peace, joy and happiness. Individually and collectively, we (humanity) can continually take leaps as more and more work to innately evolve quality, value, excellence and simplicity by applying a mindset of and for goodness.

Make it better

Software Quality, Inherent Quality, Microsoft

Plug holes (e.g.), increasingly support concepts for a more open office (e.g.), move quickly toward the third-decade of the Web (2010-2020), expand freely, live with passion and enable all to increasingly move forward positively more so as one to help do and make it better in a world where indeed anything is possible. As November 2007 approaches, look back (e.g.) and look ahead, and ask yourself what you want the world to remember (e.g., the power of one can embed and elevate imagination and positive results; be creative for example “It might be true that there are 6 billion people in the world and counting, nevertheless, what you do makes a difference”). Have a nice life and help all to have one too (e.g.). Say goodbye (e.g.) to a life of destruction and say hello to a life of peaceful transformation. All must increasingly come together to make the world better from various perspectives. Thank you for doing so.

Life

Software Quality, Inherent Quality

You might say that Metrics is to Belief, what Science is to Art, or what Proof is to Faith. You might say all such things are important. That together they can help us successfully innovate. That together they can help to open minds, produce improvements or expand awareness of tools for work or life; for example 1, 2, 3, 4, and even this example. Science may hold all answers and truths; however today Science is still an exploration. Continually make quality occur more inherently or be more so inherent. Give and receive position energy. Be good and progressively enable higher degrees of goodness within life. Do it for everyone. Connect with whatever you consider your source and have a great weekend.

Humble beginning

Google, Software Quality, Inherent Quality

Everyone starts somewhere (e.g., 1, 2, 3); and even a template may need to be vacuumed (e.g., 1, 2, 3). While particular use cases may be very low these days (e.g.), each success of a humble beginning is important. This post is a thank you to Mike (a member of my new team) for quickly resolving a recent challenge that was impacting multiple databases - customer sites. Well done. Thanks also Mike for ongoing dedication and perseverance. The many contributions to success you have made recently have been noted and are very much appreciated.

What would you say?

Tonight I sit peacefully to write this post. To my right, through the clear glass of the patio doors, is the deck. Beyond it, there rests a still Canadian flag. Beyond the flag are reflections within the water of a calm lake. Above the water is a gentle starlit sky. In the background plays soft SPA music. The dim room is lit only by the monitor and a small keyboard lamp. The question that flows to my fingers is this: if you knew you were going to die and you had one last lecture, what would you say?

Would you mention that: Sarbanes-Oxley is making executives personally responsible for making sure that mistakes and misreporting are no longer tolerable; CIOs are going green to save green; the Nao Project is an ongoing venture dedicated to the development and mass production of an intelligent humanoid robot for the consumer market; Microsoft report warns of data breaches; CIOs are being challenged to take on a social networking leviathan and join Facebook; many need a way to improve collaboration, simplify team infrastructure and make sure everyone’s working from a centralized, single source of truth; business agility is crucial for organizations to effectively respond to growth, competitive threats and regulatory requirements; fault tolerance in a virtual world is an important topic; a bill introduced in the U.S. Senate aims to close loopholes exploited by Internet criminals; Gartner picks the technologies that are likely to have the biggest impact on business in the next 18 to 36 months; RealNetworks Inc. has released a patch for an extremely critical security flaw in RealPlayer that attackers have targeted in recent days; a sniper-sniffing robot is a tactical mobile robot designed to seek out and identify weapons in congested areas; a book called the Power of Believing seeks to unlock doors to your soul that you never knew were there and challenges you to stand up and take charge of your affairs in every aspect of your life; Xerox’s intelligent redaction software would enable users to selectively encrypt different portions of a document for different recipients; a Forrester webcast features a discussion on reducing internal threats; a recent software quality tip provides insight as to who does what in a test center of excellence? Perhaps you would mention the progress of an up and coming organization (e.g. AllYourRetail.Com or ConceptShare.Com). Perhaps you would echo the need for all throughout the world to continually work in a direction that seeks to innately elevate quality, value, excellence and simplicity for all, for every, from any perspective.

The answer that flows to my fingers is this: whatever you might say, it is my hope that your words would help continually make things better throughout the universe.

Continually ignite a brighter future for everyone and all creations. Increasingly beam value-inherent, intrinsic and pervasive into your steps and into the steps of others. Spark interesting knowledge exchanges and discussions (e.g. ITKE and cbc.ca/spark such as with respect to a discussion involving Jamais Cascio and William Gibson on smart environments and the future of the Internet). Innovate the future and start thinking now about perfect vision leap year 2020 and beyond to further extend greater degrees of love and light to all.

Creatively mature an inherent quality mindset; as more discover and contribute, the beauty and quality will be amplified. Call all to join the field and to do it for the generations of today and the future. Triumph! Fight the “good” fight with love and make it worth the price humanity has paid. Play in the big leagues of higher purposes. If you know there is something wrong, right it! Help make the world better for others. Do it for others because it is the right thing to do to try. Thank you for doing so. As more live in the mystery and join the journey, humanity will take giant leaps forward. It’s just a matter of time before we get to shine. From an operating system and larger perspective, may the source be with you; and may your thought balloons (e.g.) help to generate great results for you and others.

Inherent Quality Simplicity will be available November 2007. I hope many choose to read and ponder it. The book is somewhat of a final lecture with words provided by a once quality expert who has become a Vice President and Fellow and will be endeavoring to have quality increasingly occur inherently or be more so inherent. Whatever your labor, wherever upon your journey you find yourself, be peace and be at peace, and share peace with others.

Peace be with you and all.
