Speaking the language of business is not just about using business terms. You actually have to understand the business, or using the terms is likely to backfire by revealing you’re faking it and don’t know what you’re talking about. Too many IT people, from CIO on down, can’t tell the difference between using the terms and genuinely understanding; but it’s evident to others, who continue to discount us for “not speaking the language of business.”
