Sony mobile gaming-centric consumer electronics to compete with Apple

According to The Wall Street Journal, Sony is preparing for a major launch of mobile-connected consumer electronics that will compete more directly with Apple, but more significantly validate the migratory user model of behavior.

What Sony proposes to do is to build an ecosystem around its Portable Play Station (PSP) and integrate content and computing tools with that platform in various ways. This would build a gaming-centric migratory device that would then serve as an e-reader, phone, etc. There appears likely to be a series of gadgets in the family, ranging from phone-centric devices to tablet-like devices.

We believe that competition in this space will accelerate the whole mobile market, but it will also create enormous pressure on operators to find some niche for themselves in the emerging ecosystem.
