SD Card Classes

Hi all,

It’s incredible how many different SD, SDHC, SDXC (and so on!) cards there are. And all the different classes… how do you know you will get the one with the speed that you need?

The SD Association (yes, there is one) developed standards for classes to guarantee minimum speed levels. But what does class 4 or 10 actually mean?

Speed Class || Minimum Speed || Use it For

2 ——- 2 MB/second —– SD video recording
4 ——- 4 MB/second —– SD video recording and some Full HD recording
6 ——- 6 MB/second —– Full HD video recording
10 —– 10MB/second —– Full HD video and HD still consecutive recording

So, really, depending on what you want the card for and how necessary speed is, you can just count on the higher the class number, the better.

Until next time,
