Hosted Exchange for Everyone … and BES too

Hello all, so it looks like you can now get Hosted Exchange services directly from Microsoft. With your subscription you get a huge amount of space for an email box which looks like it maxes out at 25 GB. There are of course some caveats like needing to sign up a minimum of 5 seats. Even with some of the conditions the price is unbeatable and with Microsoft providing the service you would hope that the service is at least comparable to other services.

Just when you thought that was all well and good RIM has announced recently that they will be adding in hosted BES to the service for FREE. So for the low price of a 25.00/mth you get 5 mailboxes with a 25 GB limit and hosted BES. Who can complete with that? Even RackSpace one of the largest hosted Exchange providers out there doesn’t look like they can beat that, at least at the moment.

This is all really good for consumers at the moment but the problem is going to come in when Microsoft has pushed all of the competing hosted Exchange providers out of business because Microsoft offers the same service at half the price with twice the features. With no competition the long term forecast for the consumer doesn’t look as good as the present climate.

Until next time,
