Cisco Acquires Meraki

Hi all, cloud is the off-premise dream that many managers of small or medium sized companies have dreamed of for years now. Someone else is responsible for the hardware, software and backups of some of your key services. Cisco has been working hard to make headway in the cloud managed space. Their recent acquisition of Meraki is a key turning point in that effort.

Meraki is a cloud managed solution that covers mobile-device-management (MDM) to switches to wireless and the firewalls in between. Their interface is slick, their hardware is low-cost and their solutions are laser beam focused. With Cisco’s acquisition of them their lean and simple ecosystem will be brought into the Cisco family. Along with that many are hoping that the unified management style and comprehensive cloud services will come with them.

The announcement was only made last night (November 18th) so the wheels of their integration into the Cisco family hasn’t even started in earnest. Many people are looking forward to what this partnership will bring.
