If we think happy thoughts will the economy get better?

If we think happy thoughts will the economy get better?

I am not one to “think happy thoughts” or be positive for the sake of being positive. I do think there is something to it, but it’s a hard pill for me to swallow sometimes. I have to firmly disagree with all the economist and politicians and let them all know they are wrong about the bad economy.

Dead wrong!

Why would I say that? I am a under-educated IT guy from Savannah, GA who scratched and clawed his way in IT over the past 20 years, and not a classically trained economist. I can tell you all this, while there are people who are out of work and there are indicators of some sore spots in the economy. I can provide you this bit of light.

In Charlotte the local malls have been packed. I mean like Christmas time. They are always busy. Either a lot of people are mall walking or there is some economic spending going on. There is a new IKEA in Charlotte and while I know people are excited to see it open and are seeing what it’s all about. There has been a traffic jam in that part of the world for over a week now. You can’t get in and out without a huge wait. They have a shuttle set up to get you to and from.  If the economy were really bad would people be traveling on the weekends? Would they not stay home and conserve?

I think this whole bad economy thing is real, but I have to wonder how much is just between our ears, well at least some between our ears.

I am not trying to po-po the facts, but if we start thinking happy thoughts maybe the economy will come back and we can get back to working hard instead of worrying about if we will have a job tomorrow!

BSD, UNIX, Offtopic

For those of you who are wondering…why is David talking about BSD? I am a closet BSD Fan. I am just in love with it. While the rest of the world is out lov’in on Linux and Ubuntu ( I do love them too..) and I one who would rather see BSD make it into Enterpise IT and more widley accepted.

The Developers at DragonFlyBSD are working hard to get this out and working. Hope you enjoy the new release. I know I can’t wait to get home.

DragonFly Release 2.2 - 17 February 2009

The DragonFly 2.2 release is here! The HAMMER filesystem is considered production-ready in this release; It was first released in July 2008. The 2.2 release represents major stability improvements across the board, new drivers, much better pkgsrc support and integration, and a brand new release infrastructure with multiple target options.

Three release options are now available: Our bare-bones CD ISO, a DVD ISO which includes a fully operational X environment, and a bare-bones bootable USB disk-key image (less than 512M).

While this has nothing to do with the IBM i or POWER Systems, it has everything to do with the IBM i and POWER Systems. We can’t afford what OBAMA and the Government is offering right now. It would cripple the world as we know extend the problems for years to come.

Digital TV Transition Delay Bill Failed to Pass?

Digital TV Cut over, Offtopic

Digital TV Transition Delay bill failed again and I think it’s a good thing. Would this not help spur on sales of new TVs and more Digital Products for homes?  I am all for the switch over and think it would help the economy rather than hurt it? Comments?

I don’t like GMAIL

Google, Gmail, Offtopic

I have been using GMAIL for about 3 years now. I started using it for the large mail sizes and the amount you an store. From that angle it is great. From a UI stand point and a email management stand point it’s a complete wreck. All of your mail is stored in one place and there are no folders of ways to manage it better, other than with filters or views. I don’t like all the filters of views, I like folders and the everything in one bucket aproch is killing me. I lose things, the treads are hard to track and I am starting to really use it a lot and love the calendar and documents side of it, but absolutly hate the GMail interface.

I am moving to Yahoo Mail, and now I have to make sure all my mail is routing and everyone changes how they get in touch with me, what a pain, but at least Yahoo works the way I thing.

Kijiji - the new and better looking CraigsList?

Posted by: David Vasta
Uncategorized, Offtopic

I am a Craig’s List user. It’s a great idea and I still don’t know how they make any money at it. I was looking around eBay.com’s site and found a link for Kijiji.com and clicked on it to find out what it was and it’s a really good looking Craig’s List. Now I know that eBay owns a portion of Craig’s List but how does this play into it?
