Like where, Maurice? I'm curious to see which posts you're referring to.

Also, to be clear: Steve was responding to another commenter above, not to my post.

"With HP’s acquisition of EDS the financial and services gap between #1 HP and #2 IBM only widens. IBM is well on its way to becoming a footnote in IT history."

What stats are you reading, HP's? All of the press I read about the acquisitions states that HP is trying to catch up to IBM's position in services, so clearly HP is not #1. And even if IBM were #2 you call that a footnote in history?? You must be either very young or an HP flak...

Too bad people don't understand the XIV and what advantages it brings to the data center. Perhaps if they worked in one, they could see what it brings to the table.

I will admit the marketing is not up to snuff yet but once you figure it out, it's a pretty neat idea.

"The press release is chock-full of verbiage about how much more technical and expert IBM researchers are and what a wealth of knowledge IBM brings to the SSD table, none of which I doubt."

This is what IBM has said about the SSD technology in this latest announcement:

- "SSDs are being supplied by Fusion-io."

- ”We have melded our SVC technology with Flash technology,” says Andrews, explaining that IBM has put SSD Flash cards from FusionIO.

Beth,

Another great post. Gerstner got IBM out of its high-margin mainframe death spiral and into services. Palmisano's challenge, should he choose to accept it, is to get IBM back into the product business by fixing a dysfunctional marketing culture.

With HP's acquisition of EDS the financial and services gap between #1 HP and #2 IBM only widens. IBM is well on its way to becoming a footnote in IT history.

But hey! the stock is doing well. Who cares about the rest of it?
