I agree w/ Stephen, while the idea of FIOS at my house has me stalking the Verizon van w/ the bright orange spool on the back. I think it will be a good while before the tubes can handle all the trucks dumping stuff on them from out in my neck of the woods :).

I'm with you on the stuff in the house too, between the "Digital Hub" video game systems and Vmware experiments, I am going to need another subnet and affordable terabyte tapes soon.

As for the Terabyte Home, it is already here and in such a sneaky way people don't even really think about it. The PVR/TIVO!! Big drives, almost everywhere, and easy to use!

Didn't someone try VOIP phones at home a while back too? I'm curious to see who capitalizes on the E-SATA enabled wireless routers first, networking companies or storage companies.

Beth,

While I don't see decentralized IT as a threat to the enterprise space, there certainly is a lot of interest in finally building the Terabyte Home these days... Notice how well Western Digital and Seagate have been doing at retail this year, Dell's move into Best Buy and Staples stores, everything Apple, the continuing success of Linksys, etc... Personally, I've bought over 2 terabytes of storage for my house in the last year! My home LAN currently has no less than 24 devices connected to it - and even my technophobe relatives have home networks with multiple devices...

Forget digital refrigerators, think of the rise in mainstream music and video players and maybe even internet tablets as the meme of 2008.

I even started a section covering this on blog.fosketts.net!
