Regarding Storguy’s comments regarding the channel, I find that CommVault is in fact one of the most channel friendly companies out there. They aren’t arrogant, even though I feel they have the best data management platform on the market.The field team works hand in hand with our sales team and our engineering team to win deals in our market.

CVLT is in trouble. NetVault + AppAssure eliminates any advantage that Simpana has. Commvault wants people to think their architecture is special, but it is not. It is a separate pile of code for every function in there (dedupe, backup, cdp, archive, etc.). The truth can be found by watching an actual Simpana installation. Dell made the right choice not buying CVLT, they are an arrogant company with very few friends in the channel.

Interesting comments from Mr. West, considering that NetVault Backup and CommVault Simpana share the same origin: AT&T Labs. Since 1992, NetVault Backup has offered heterogeneous support across a broad range of operating systems, applications, processor architectures, and storage devices. In my opinion, West is downplaying what will likely be a serious blow to CV’s business.
