Clustering house Platform Computing has forwarded its efforts in cloud computing with Platform ISF 2.1, a new release of its software for building and managing enterprise private clouds. It is said to support the application lifecycle from development to operations.
The software comes with out-of-the-box definitions for multi-tier application environments such as Hadoop, Jboss, Tomcat and WebSphere. It also adds a “single cloud pane” view into the cloud deployment, covering multiple pieces of infrastructure.
Using the software, said Jay Muelhoefer, VP Enterprise Marketing, Platform Computing, development teams can create their own definitions for application profiles, and place these in a service catalog. Moreover, according to Muelhoefer, end users can request profiles from this catalog, which can then be automatically provisioned.
“This can range from a simple VM to multitier multi-database applications,” he said.
“We support a heterogeneous resource pool for building out cloud resources, he said, further contending that ”mega vendors” in the cloud space were promoting vertically integrated software stacks that lead to vendor lock-in.
He suggested that enterprise architects see cloud computing as an opportunity to “break across the silos that have existed in the enterprise.”
“They are creating corporate standards around the building blocks,” said Muelhoefer. Platform ISF 2.1′s goal would be to support such efforts.
