I have found the same thing.. that if the port is being currently "used" on a Windows client, then Windows Remote Desktop Client will not be able to connect to the VRDP server on VirtualBox. I finally found a port that worked for me.. I tried port 8000 on the VirtualBox VRDP settings, also the "null" setting (I'm behind a firewall on a private network) then I put in the i.p. address of the port that is on VirtualBox VRDP server 192.168.0.10:8000 and it worked!
