Apple has released security updates for critical flaws in its popular QuickTime media player and the iPhone.

Apple announced the release of QuickTime 7.4 to address flaws attackers could exploit to run malicious code on targeted machines. The flaws range from a memory corruption glitch in QuickTime’s handling of Sorenson 3 video files to a flaw in how QuickTime handles Macintosh resource records in movie files.

The iPhone security update addresses several flaws attackers could exploit to launch malicious code or cause a denial of service. Problems include a memory corruption flaw related to how Safari handles certain URLs and an implementation glitch in the passcode lock feature.
