Wow did I really just do what I did last week and go to 4 of our locations and walk our guys through a actual SBS 2003 to SBS 2008 migration and explain some of the tips and tricks and gotchas to be aware and the need to really do this a few hundred times before you roll it out. Ok I am over exaggerating a little but you get the idea. I know the feedback that was given I made the Techs stop and think and start planning on how they was going to help their customers get to SBS 2008.
If any of you know me you would know that is not my style to get in front of a group of people and do this. As I explained to my boss once I am an introvert forced to deal with the real world. I hate talking just like to do my work and test new things. Same goes for this blogging stuff I never imagined in a million years I would do this. But I have no issues helping the customers I take care of and talking to them now why is that.
My wife asked me “Why” are you doing this and the answer to me was pretty simple to me anyway as I have used so many tips and tricks and fixes that I have found off the web and thought it was my turn to help someone if possible. Even if it was just one person then I have helped and did what I wanted to and if any of my posts makes someone stop and go hey maybe I really need to do some testing of SBS 2008 before I go to my favorite best customer and try to do a migration to SBS 2008 and end up with a total train wreck because you did not think you have to do that.
As I explained as I was on my adventure that this is a totally different route than you are use too. This is not SBS 2000 or SBS 2003 this is SBS 2008 and there has been changes. There is nothing wrong with putting your own spin on how you do it but I gave them the basics on what to build on for there style but bring you’re a game when you do. Maybe I should get myself a shirt of some kind I survived the SBS 2008 HTS tour or maybe better yet shirts for the techs I survived the HTS SBS 2008 tour. Tomorrow it is back to the trenches and hopefully I will have some tips tricks or fixes to put out here.
Til Later just Roger
