HP c3000 and Virtual Servers

HP c3000, HyperV, SCVMM2008

We have a HP c3000 in our office that I have setup with 2– BL 480c Servers with 64 Gig RAM and twin Quad Core CPU’s and 2 BL 465c Servers setup the same way as the 480c’s except with the AMD processors and 36 Gig RAM. We are attaching to a AIO600c Storage blade for the virtual servers using iSCSI. We are using 3 of the servers for HyperV and 1 for a server needing hardware and is not supported virtually. As of right now I have moved 13 servers over to the HyperV servers. We had some Virtual Servers running on Virtual Server 2005 R2 and physical servers. We have noticed a performance increase in the response of our applications available to the outside after the move. We have reduced our server area by 4 physical servers so far and plan to move a few more out. I was down to a HP event at the Woodlands just outside of Houston a year or so ago and they was talking Greening up your data center with the c7000 and talked of  the c3000 at that time. So we are living that at the moment.

I have to hand it to MS the SCVMM 2008 is a great tool for any of you that have a few servers to move either in a P2V or a V2V migration it works great. I have another customer who runs around 35 servers that we are starting to getting ready to move some of their systems Virtually also. We are using a c7000 with 2 BL 480c servers and twin QC CPu’s and 48 Gigs of RAM and we are connecting to a HP MSA 2012i for hosting the Virtual Servers and so far in testing this is looking really good. Just have to test the failover yet and then it is time for prime time. Well more on this later.

Til later just Roger
