Have you checked out SCVMM 2008 yet?

I know I have promised the last part of the Standard Server 2003 to SBS 2008 migration but I am working on it yet.
Has anyone had a chance to try out the new SCVMM 2008. I did and it is going to be a very useful tool for those who are running HyperV or Virtual Server 2005 or VMware ESX and want to do P2V or V2V migrations.

I have a customer who we have been slowly moving them to a HP c7000 enclosure with a mixture of BL 460c servers for Terminal Servers and a Exchange 2007 Server and a BL 480c servers for our HyperV Host machine. I had been using Storage Craft Shadow protect to backup the physical machines and then restoring them into the HyperV Environment and that has been working really well for me.

That has nothing on SCVMM 2008 where it took me probably 3 hours to move over took me 20 minutes and I really didn’t have to do anything here it seemed like a couple of clicks and getting the settings correct for the Guest machine for CPU’s and memory and boom it was moved over and up and running. I was excited as this will save a lot of time. Even moving a V2V went really well. So if you are into HyperV and want a great tool to manage your Virtual Machines better check it out.

Till Later just Roger
