Experience shows that a fair number of organisations do not have a comprehensive internal EA competence. In order to make good on the sustainability of initiatives in EA, sound advice to organisations embarking on this undertaking is esential i.e. EA is an iterative process.
I like Reason #2. But, before an enterprise can consider Reasons #1 and #3, they must optimise their SAP systems. You can't join in the "EA big picture" with systems containing 50% custom code, of which 50% is unused, or response times in excess of minutes, or only using 35% of the licenced code. And would you deploy such systems for "real SOA"? Do you even know the level of custom code in your system? Or how much unused standard code is paid for [and wasted]? The "big time pay-off" is FIRST an optimised system. Then you can move on to the smart business.
