This article also highlights the impact that offshore programmers have brought to the field. The transition from programmer to analyst programmer is still very much alien for offshore developers. It makes true remote consulting very difficult (but not impossible), as industry increasing demand techno-functional consultants.

Matthew.
I liked this article. It shed light in what we ABAP professionals need to focus on. I agree in that ABAP certification is a plus, but not essential. There are other important features we need to develop for a succesful ABAP career. Thanks.

I think Mr.Matthew has given very valid and important tips to have success in ABAP.Mainly two considerations are needed during the programmimg.
1-Minimum resources shoild be consumed during the execution.
2-The execution should be within minimum possible time.

The process know how is then must to accomplish the two above said tasks and this is only possible when one has gone through praticle experience of implementation in couple of industries.

Your suggestion that the value of certification peters out over time makes sense, but what about income differential? It's very clear that there's a pay difference between MBAs vs. non-MBAs in the middle management layer; wouldn't this work the same way?
