Site Recovery Manager makes it’s GA

SRM

Now normally, I get a bit tired of these constant annoucements – but this one interests me greatly. I’ve been working with SRM since the beta, and hooked up with some useful storage guys at Canne. So since about March, I’ve been working on a new book. I’ve written about 250 pages so far, with probably another 50 pages here and there to add. My plan is give a rough draft of my new book to some people internally to VMware for feedback. Next I plan to make available “at cost” a special “Authors Limited Edition” to all VMware Certified Instructors for further peer-review and feedback.

Then the next stage will be hopefully another “Authors Limited Edition” at the VMworld Store, I’ve been chatting with the people who manage the store for VMware. So sometime after VMworld I think it will be ready to order from lulu.com. It won’t be distributed in a PDF format because of fear of copyright violation. I hope once we were are SRM Beta 2.0 (no roadmap for that yet, heck we have just a v1.0 GA!) then I will consider making the book available for free via RTFM.

So hopefully the new book on VMware Site Recovery Manager – will be ready to order by September/November.

Note: Thanks to Stuart Thompson of the London VMware User Group Steering Committee (I’m also a member) for calling me this afternoon to tell me the GA had happened. As ever there were no big fanfares from VMware!
