RDP and ICA are respectively Microsoft and Citrix client protocols which can connect your client device to either a remote desktop or a published application. It’s well know in the industry that ICA is the superior protocol – and can held graphics better than RDP. One of my worries about VDI generally – has been less about the broker (how the user gets the desktop) and less about storage (how do we store our VMs with the smallest disk cost) but this issue of performance. Clearly once you get into the field of video, graphics rendering and CAD – both RDP/ICA look pretty lame.
But anyway, last week I was looking on youtube for VDI stuff (you might find that a bit odd as most people seem to use youtube to locate their favourite bestiality videos) and came across this demo of graphics through a link with a latency. See if you can spot the difference:
