Virtualization: the ‘QuickTest Appliance’ Concept

VMWare Server is a great product. It can be used to host Virtual Machines (VMs) that operate independently from each other and from the host server, creating a tightly controlled test execution environment.

Some advantages of this virtual environment:

• No need to install QTP on your personal desktop/laptop
• Virtual Machine configurations are cloned from a template and can be easily restored/recreated
• Test execution does not interact with your desktop applications (email, IM, browser)
