Social network security issues drive consulting and education projects

Social networking security

Solution providers are being called upon to guide their customers through the security maze of social networking.  Whether building a Facebook page to evangelize their brand, or forming a LinkedIn group to connect with their customers, businesses must balance the benefits of social networking with social network security issues such as identity theft, social engineering attacks and other malware that thrives on social networks. But is social media security training much of a revenue driver yet, or is it really just a hot topic that customers want to talk about, but not pay for?

In this Patrolling the Channel podcast, Joseph Guarino, president of Boston-based security solution provider Evolutionary IT, talks about how his company has handled security issues around his customers’ Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus activities, and what this has meant to his company’s bottom line. Guarino also discusses the special social networking security risks for solution providers supporting customers in the health care industry.

I guess everyone wants to know about virtual identity thefts and other kinds of attacks, but if it’s for free, I’m positive they don’t mind, right? Since I joined the social justice graduate programs, I’ve read about a lot of people who would do anything just to get items at a cheaper price, if not for free. I’m not saying everyone’s guilty, but we usually have this tendency.

You know what I hate about Facebook? The fact that once somebody has your Y!Messenger address, they can find your account and easily send you a friend request. I find that an intimacy abuse, because I have a lot of friends ever since I’ve started the master health administration program and I’m actually a misanthropist.

Ever since I’ve enrolled for a masters in criminology, I’ve found it harder and harder to understand why some people want to get rich stealing from the others. If they’re so smart, they should actually do something with their brains and gain the cash they deserve. These social networks are like our business cards, they tell them all there is to know about our lives.

I was meditating today on how good it is to invest in something worthy, especially when it comes to a business. It is true that everything you do influences you and my cfa exam preparation has taught me that many businessmen can fail if they’re not paying attention to what social media represents. I would like to hear more about what Guarino has to say.
