Overheard: Extend your brand to the desktop

Adobe, desktop

Kyle Claypool, Tech Tools: AdobeAIR Apps

I’m not so sure about Adobe AIR apps. I can clutter up my desktop quite nicely by myself. I’ve already ditched my gadgets and widgets. The AIR apps look pretty but I still think I’d rather go to a web page and keep my desktop for my own clutter. I must say, though, that Kyle’s examples almost have me convinced to give it a try.

Hi Margaret,

Thanks for linking back to my blog post. I certainly share your concern over cluttered desktops - that’s a constant battle for me as well. For Adobe AIR though, I created a new folder on my desktop and then all the AIR apps are contained within that folder. Keeps the desktop clean and gives me the freedom to play around with all the cool apps they’re developing.

Plus, on the development side, a number of my clients are still clinging to AOL (god help them), so browser compatibility is always an issue. But if I distribute a training program using AIR, compatibility is guaranteed. That may not exactly be a mainstream concern, but in certain niches it can be.

Best,
