Yesterday Cisco announced some major updates for the most popular Cisco CCNP Certification program. Currently three new CCNP exams are revamped i.e. ROUTE 642-902, SWITCH 642-813, and TSHOOT 642-832, wow  titles looks great for me.

In the prevision version you were required to pass four exams BSCI, BCMSN, ISCW and ONT.  Whereas the new updated version of CCNP requires only three exams to pass. The exams will be available in March/April 2010. The current CCNP track is available until July 2010.

• The previous version of the CCNP required four exams: BSCI, BCMSN, ONT and ISCW. The revised certification now requires three 120-minute exams:
  • ROUTE #642-902 Implementing Cisco IP Routing
  • SWITCH #642-813—Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks
  • TSHOOT #642-832——Troubleshooting and Maintaining Cisco IP
• The new CCNP courses and e-learning materials are available now. The exams will be available in March/April 2010.
• CCNP is the second most popular Cisco Certification, after CCNA®.
• No other imprint publishes to the CCNP certification

First of all I would like to thanks Michael Morisy from ITKE for offering me a copy of “PM crash course for IT Professionals” also I am thankful to Jamie Adams from Cisco Press for her support all the time.

Since I was the Project Manager for our Data Center Expansion project, this book came to me as a great working manual to implement the project. I followed the methodology discussed by the author a management guru Rita Mulcahy (PMP) and I imbibed the methodology into my project which led to successful completion.

The book really met the objectives to assist the IT professionals to sharpen their project management skills. The best thing I like about the book is the way Rita explained the essentials of project management and this book can be read in a short span of time.

The “PM crash course for IT Professionals” is a fine book in which the author have refined the essentials of Project Management into concise points. The exercises, check lists, templates available in this book are quite beneficial especially to IT Professionals. 

I would recommend the “PM crash course for IT Professionals” for IT professionals/ Project Manages who are looking an immediate impact on going projects as this book comes with lots of easy to use tools and processes followed by great ideas .

I was just accessing the rough cuts for the Cisco CCIE Routing and Switching Official Certification Guide, 4^th Edition. I had a great first impression. I had a chance to read “LAN Switching” part. It was a great firsthand experience. This segment is organized well and the approach is similar to CCNA, CCNP books, starts with a brief introduction and then the most useful section of Cisco Press Books “Do I Know This Already?” Quiz followed by “Foundation topics and “Foundation Summary”.

The Cisco Press authors Wendell Odom, Rus Healy and Denise Donohue did a credible job; I liked the way they presented the topics, since I spent most of my time on Switching I really enjoyed the “LAN Switching” part. Though I am familiar with most of the things they were talking but it was great experience to refresh my info.

The CCIE Routing and Switching Official Certification Guide 4^th Edition is to be released on 19^th of November 2009 by Cisco Press, they are offering great discount do check Cisco Press web site for more details, but make sure you registered yourself to Cisco Press website to get more discount. Once the book released I will try to write a review on this book.

I am always inspired by the Cisco Press books which are my only source for my career success. When it comes to certification study guides, Cisco Press leads from the front.  In this article I will try to review the CCNP BSCI Official Exam Certification Guide, Fourth Edition, this study guide is a first and final step towards your CCNP success.

Interconnecting Data Centers Using VPLS is a book which aims at providing solutions that provide a high speed, low latency network and spanning tree protocol (STP) isolation between data centers based on Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS).

The book makes interesting reading, especially as it covers in detail about the architecture design and configuration required to interconnect data centers as well as case studies to interconnect Data Centers.  This book is targeted to Systems professionals and System engineers who are into designing solutions for interconnecting data centers which ensures high availability Layer 2 connectivity and STP isolation.

The authors Nash Darukhanawalla and Patrice Bellagamba started the book with explaining the need for high availability of the Data Centers, explaining the concept of the high availability clusters, introduction to Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS), MPLS traffic engineering.

The authors’ present different flavors of data center interconnect solution using different combination of Spanning Tree modes, VLAN mapping as well other criteria’s along with complete configuration required at the  aggregation switches and provider edge routers.

The book is divided into 13 chapters, and it also deals with issues related to layer 2 bridging domains and provides guidance to extend VLANs using Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS). This book contains lot of reference network diagrams which can help the readers to understand the presented solutions in normal mode as well as in failover mode.

I found this book extremely readable and enjoyable and I would recommend this book to the folks who are interested in knowing more about the Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS). The book comes with lot of useful information which will definitely help the readers to get familiar with the Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) concepts and configuration steps required for interconnecting data centers.
