I have been working with HP Wireless Edge Services and I love it more each time I install the system. After the PAIN of 3Com’s wireless solution (WX1200, and the 3WXM) and dealing with the issues there I feel the HP is actually WAY TO EASY to set up and maintain! If you know anything about VLANs you can get one of these systems flying in no time at all. It does auto set itself at VLAN 2100 and you must make sure all of the access point are on that VLAN untagged. The Radio Ports (access points) connect via layer 2 so no IP’s needed for the Radio Ports themselves just the Wireless Edge Services module. If you actually use VLAN 1 the module will set itself up using DHCP and you can access the Web interface through the Web interface on the chassis. At this time, I recommend any environment above 3 access points to get this solution. HP also has a new system from Calubris that was just released. It may even be better as it maintains all of the switching at the access point but control from a central location. I will go into more detail as soon as I get my hands on a system.
