ALTIGEN QOS for HP Switches

Posted by: Jason S. Erickson
Altigen, SwitchVox, HP, UDP, TCP, VoIP

I needed to do this for a customer and thought someone else may need it.

Here are the ports we need for the Alitgen VOICE.

Voip – RTP   -  UDP 49152-49998

IP/IPtalk – tcp 10032,10064 - UDP 10060 – UDP 30000-31000 – UDP 10064

I did a bit of research and it does not appear that you can enter ranges via the web interface.  So here is the script you need to have this program up the ports via the command line.

On a desktop/laptop on the network.

Start – Run – telnet (enter the IP of the switch) - enter.

You should see the a similar line as this:  ( the HP 5406 part can be anything)

HP 5406 Switch#

Copy all of the following to the clip board from conf to exit.

Conf

qos udp-port range 49152 49998 priority 7

qos udp-port range 30000 31000 priority 7

qos tcp-port 10032 priority 7

qos tcp-port 10064 priority 7

qos udp-port 10064 priority 7

qos udp-port 10060 priority 7

wr mem

exit

Right click on the top of the dos window and choose edit – paste.  It will run all of the commands and save the changes.

You should end up on the same command line as where you started.

Move on to the next switch.

Good luck!

HP Switches and Valcom IP Page

Valcom, HP, Noise, SIP, SwitchVox

Sorry for the break in writing, I have been doing grunt work lately as I have been wiring up a Valcom page system that integrates Via SIP to my SwitchVox phone system.  It has gone great with the exception of white noise on the over head speakers.I have been working on this with Valcom and have finally found a solution to a white noise issue on my overhead Valcom speakers.  It appears that the POE from the HP 5400 series chassis has a little noise in it.  Normally this is a non-issue, but with speakers from the PA being run directly off the POE the white noise comes though loud and clear.

If you are doing this install I recommend smaller 1u switches from HP or 3Com as they do not present the white noise so badly.

Cheers!

HP Wireless Edge Services

3Com, HP, Wireless, Wireless Edge Services, VLAN, WX1200

I have been working with HP Wireless Edge Services and I love it more each time I install the system. After the PAIN of 3Com’s wireless solution (WX1200, and the 3WXM) and dealing with the issues there I feel the HP is actually WAY TO EASY to set up and maintain! If you know anything about VLANs you can get one of these systems flying in no time at all. It does auto set itself at VLAN 2100 and you must make sure all of the access point are on that VLAN untagged. The Radio Ports (access points) connect via layer 2 so no IP’s needed for the Radio Ports themselves just the Wireless Edge Services module. If you actually use VLAN 1 the module will set itself up using DHCP and you can access the Web interface through the Web interface on the chassis. At this time, I recommend any environment above 3 access points to get this solution. HP also has a new system from Calubris that was just released. It may even be better as it maintains all of the switching at the access point but control from a central location. I will go into more detail as soon as I get my hands on a system.
