The Most-Watched IT Questions: February 15, 2011

ITKE Melanie Yarbrough Profile: MelanieYarbrough

These questions have been watched by the community more than Bieber’s watched by pre-teen girls. That’s probably not true, but still, keep an eye on these gems and help out where you can. If you asked one of these questions and you have your answer, be sure to approve it and pay the knowledge forward!

1. Mrdenny gave another stellar answer to a member polling members on why one would choose a cloud hosting environment over a managed server hosting.

2. CharlieBrowne, TomLiotta, and HMSSL2K give some pointers on AS/400 disk utilization.

3. Mrdenny and Sixball mention *nix, Cisco VPN, and point-to-point VPN to a member looking for a VPN solution for deploying endpoints quickly.

4. A member is having difficulty dealing with the SQL Server 2005 permissions required by public, and Mrdenny is trying to assist.

The IT Blog Top 10: February 10, 2011

ITKE Melanie Yarbrough Profile: MelanieYarbrough

Catch up on your IT news with the latest from the IT blog top 10. From the valuable experiences of Mr. Denny to major changes in storage, data center design, and virtualization.

1. Mrdenny’s our go-to guide on all things SQL Server, so when he talks, we listen. What’s he saying this week? If you aren’t doing backups, you aren’t doing your job.

2. If you’re like me, you gathered around the tube this past Sunday to watch the…Super Bowl commercials. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one since Ron Miller had a few things to say about one in particular: Salesforce Chatter Super Bowl ads incomprehensible.

3. Nobody likes price raises, but these folks have some good points. Dave Raffo highlights some of the reasons Mozy customers balked at cloud backup price increases.

4. The Virtualization Room’s Colin Steele has the rundown of the shake up of the higher ups at VMware: VMware names co-presidents, Maritz still CEO.

5. What’s your data center built on? Stephen Bigelow at the Data Center Apparatus wonders if it’s a leg-up on raised floors.

Featured Member: HMSSL2K

ITKE Melanie Yarbrough Profile: MelanieYarbrough

Today’s featured member, HMSSL2K, is a pretty familiar face around the forums. Hailing from Texas, Bruce has worked with AS/400 for the past 18 years. He started out as a third shift operator while attending college, then moved up through different ranks and companies into his current position as an AS/400 administrator. Though his degree is in MIS and PCs, he jumped into AS/400 and never looked back. He loved the many different hats of an admin, and the opportunities to interact with customers and vendors. If HMSSL2K has helped you out recently, be sure to approve his answer and pay the knowledge forward!
