If you’re a regular in the community, you may have noticed a change in the look of our search tool. We’re pleased to officially present to you the new features of IT Knowledge Exchange’s search.

  • Search IT Answers, Blogs, or both (”Entire Site”):

  • Filter your search by tags, date last updated, member handles (delivers questions a particular user has participated in, whether asking, answering or discussing) or browse by parent topic.
  • Sort results by relevance or date of last update
  • Search auto-suggest feature as you type:

  • Blog post suggestions based on your search:

Our new search features will not only enhance your experience as a user by providing dramatically improved search results, but we’re hoping it will also deliver more relevant site content and make it easier to get more involved in the community. Need to see what questions Mrdenny has answered on SQL Server lately? Need to hear the buzz on the blogs on the latest Microsoft Virtualization news? Our new search can help you find just what you need.

Feel free to kick the tires and let us know what you think — your feedback is our most important asset!

I really like the search feature, however, I have something to add:

There have been a few times when I will remember a user’s username, but not the question they answered, and I have since removed the question from the watchlist. With that in mind, I have used the search feature to find the person and their activity, but have been confused by the way in which the results show. The results are not chronological, and it can be a bit overwhelming to try and locate a particular question/answer.

Schmidtw,

I hear you — the results are sorted by date of last update, rather than date of creation. So, if someone answers a question that was asked a year ago, it will move to the top of the results again.

What would you suggest? Another filter by “date created” to make the options “Relevance”, “Date Updated” and “Date Created”? What would make it most useful for you?

To be honest, I actually missed the “Relevance” and “Date” features. I will have to use the search a few more times to see if my original concern was as valid as I thought. I’ll let you know shortly!

I think that having a date updated and date created would be a useful feature.
