Living the life of a DBA can be pretty rough, especially when it comes to creating database environments, data modeling and normalization. However, help is on the way with Craig Mullins’s book, Database Administration: The Complete Guide to DBA Practices and Procedures. It provides up-to-date coverage of almost every DBA task plus analysis on big data, cloud computing and NoSQL. We have an excerpt of the book on our IT Bookworm blog.

To win a copy of the book, tell us your worst IT story involving a database. Good luck!

hmm, My system running with oracle database, but somehow every month in peak day transaction database always create issue. this make headaches. thousands transaction coming each time to db and monitoring increase, showing with nms chart also increase, that's normal condition start 6 AM until 11 its critical time. but between that peak time accident happen again, db stack. we decide to upgrade machine and add more storage. but issue still exist. Looking at DB log and dba said found statemen "to many open files". so we focusing on operating system. running on linux centos, sysadmin says that each time problem coming parameter open files on linux already booked. We increase this parameter until 64k. we will wait this solve or not.
