Steve, yes, sorry, that was a little unclear. The book covers the Mac OS X CLI in addition to Linux.

The tough bit is talking to the hardware that connects you to the real world - it always used to be printers - although that's become easier, but there are still boundless troubles to be had in talking to new (or very old) disk drives, especially when they're set up in RAIDs. -- Colin.

I’m a learner, I believe Linux is a very powerful OS compared to other, but the problem is not knowing the stuff or operations indepth.

OS X is BSD not Linux, unless you mean Yellow Dog? Is this a practical guide to Linux/Unix commands or just Linux? OSX administration would be a lot different to any Linux flavour than the difference between CentOS and SuSe for example.

What confuses me most is the difficulties in finding accurate support info (without a solid support contract). For example, I have an Ubuntu system with a display resolution problem. Not fatal, but very irritating. Many searches gave a very small set of suggested fixes, none of which made any difference. I went to a couple well respected Linux/Ubuntu forums and described the problem with references to fixes I tried. All responses were either duplicates of what I said that I tried or links to the same places that I found what I tried. Now, I’m in favor of support contracts, but I haven’t found any indication that anyone actually knows real answers for a large number of real-world problems. Worse, if you don’t have a significant degree of “Practical” knowledge, it’s extremely difficult to communicate with those who might have truly useful suggestions. — Tom
