I'm having a problem with upgrading an HP VL-7 (Pentium II/233) and Gateway E-4200 (PIII/450) PCs from Win95 to Win98 SE. I turn on Novell Workstation Management and Remote Control (ZENWorks) in Client 3.40 during that install. We use workstation management options so the WM95.exe (Workstation Management) program is invoked. Whenever WM95.exe is loaded during boot/logon, the PC refuses to do a clean RESTART -- just sits there at the Windows Shutting Down "cloud" screen. I use MSCONFIG and uncheck the WM95.EXE from Startup items and the PC restarts and shuts down just fine.
The version of WM95.EXE is the same for Client 3.32 and Client 3.40 -- I've even downloaded the supposed replacement for WM95 from Novell and it's the same version (file size and version info is the same.) We also use Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition and that loads up the CCAPP (real-time scan of email, etc.) -- doesn't appear to be conflicting.
I have desktop management used all over campus and this is a necessity, especially the computer labs. Remote management works -- I can view and control OK, just can't lock down the desktop and send policy delivered menus to these upgrade PCs. I've googled on this 'til I've been blue in the face -- I've done all the standard Win98 Shutdown Troubleshooting steps -- BIOS OK, video OK, nothing in WIN.INI or SYSTEM.INI. Everything points to some incompatibility with the Workstation Management portion of Netware.
Any thoughts? Anyone resolve this elsewhere? Thanks in advance for your consideration.
