It may have started when I installed outlook communicator to use Outlook with Hotmail. Then again it may have been coincidental. The computer used to boot fine, but was sluggish on-line, then it was sluggish off-line too, now it's even slow to boot up.
I've tried a windows repair, I've tried disabling services, I've run Norton virus scan of the whole computer, I've delted temp files, cookies, etc..., I've tried booting in safe mode which is much more responsive and zippy. I can't figure out what has made it so slow. If you have any other ideas, I'd love to hear them, otherwise as all windows users seem to do, I was going to do a reinstall of XP from scratch. Of course my data isn't backed up so I've been trying to copy relevant files in safe mode up to an external WD HD of 1TB but it's not recognized under safe mode.
