XP Eventlog and Task Scheduler services cannot start

Windows XP, Eventlog, Task Manager, Services, Services not starting, Event Viewer, Windows Services

On my XP machine with SP3, recently discovered that both the Eventlog and Task Scheduler services cannot start. When I try, I get the following error: Could not start the Eventlog service on Local Computer Error2: The System could not find the file specified.

In addition, within the Event Viewer console, when an item, such as System, is clicked, this error appears: Unable to complete the operation on "System". The interface is unknown.

Also, Diskkeeper De-frag has also been put out of commission.

After googling many sites and the MS Community as well as the KB, it seems that something may be "fishy" with how Permissions are set. However, nothing is really clear for what to do on an XP machine.

Clear cut solutions would be most appreciated, but any clues or suggestions would also be well received.

Thanks.

Hello Noha11,
what you could do is to try and change the logon information of these services; first create a sufficient powerful user on your computer and the change the credentials for the services that are failing and set them to use the one you created.
Bye

P.S. Let me know if this works!
