XP – Add or Remove Programs not working
My hard drive recently died. Bought a new drive and re-installed OS (XP home). Added addtional applications and recovered data off crashed drive. Wanted to remove some of the applications. Went to "Add or Remove Programs" and all that would appear is "Please wait while the list is being populated...". Rebooted and had the same problem. Tried finding info on it but not much luck yet. I found some sites where others have experienced the problem but no solutions. Could it be from a bad OS install? Virus? software conflict? Someone on one site suggested Norton had a virus. Please, give any suggestions or help. THANKS!!!!!

Answer Wiki:
Hello, Try running the 'Repair' utility off of your XP installation disk. This is for practical purposes a way to reinstall the OS without loosing your data or application configurations. If it's a faulty OS install this should re-write any corrupt files or replace missing ones. Note: Don't select Repair Console, follow the steps just as you would to install the OS but when you get to the point where it asks for New install, select R to repair. Good Luck!

Here is a fix that might work. I have used it on some computers and it did fix the problem.
