Is it possible to add an option to the WRKSPLF screen? Options 1-9 are used but could I add an option 0?

Hi,

The WRKSPLF panel is an IBM supplied panel, as far as I am aware there isn’t a way to add an option to this. You could always write your own version of the WRKSPLF command – but that’s likely to be a lot of work.

If you use certain GUI interfaces (JWalk for example), you may be able to add what looks like an option but actually runs a command or script to achieve the same thing.

Regards,

Martin Gilbert.

You cannot add an option 0 but, in V6R1, you can add options A-Z on WRKSPLF, WRKOUTQ, and even the System/36 environment D P command. This is covered in my ‘What’s New in System APIs for V6R1′ presentation along with an example of adding option ‘P’ for Print Next. You could easily also use ‘A’ for archive, ‘F’ for fax, etc. This presentation is not currently on my web site but if you would like a copy just contact me directly.

It is possible to create a substitute for WRKSPLF - I have only just completed one myself. Unfortunately, mine uses a lot of library procedures, and is therefore too 'big' to send you - I'd have to send you the service program modules too, and the whole lot is a bit large. But it's not difficult to do if you are used to IBM APIs, and have worked with User Spaces. You need the QUSLSPL API, and the User Space APIs. Regards, Sloopy

To start some action from WRKSPLF you can use your own output queue controlled by data queue. See CRTOUTQ and DTAQ(mylib/myoptions) To start an action from WRKSPLF user moves spool file to this output queue and releases it. The details of file are passed to data queue. You heave to monitor the data queue continually via “server” batch job and trigger action you need. You can create for output queue a dummy printer because form WRKSPL is easer to change a printer then output queue Solution is quite flexible. I am using such solutions for converting spools to PDF TXT or HTML and for distributing spools as e-mail (e-mail are passed by USRDFNDTA of spool file)
