If the message is on the printer make sure the paper type for the tray is Plain Paper.
example at printer level:
Paper Input Tray: Status: Capacity: Size: Type:
Tray 1 OK 250 Letter Plain Paper
Tray 2 OK 250 Letter Card Stock
Tray 3 OK 500 Letter Invoices
MP Feeder Empty 100 Letter Colored Paper

I had tried both method.
The message is shown on the printer panel.
Keep asking me to load A4 Paper when there is already A4 paper in the Multipurpose tray.

When printing from Windows, it is no problem.

I can’t figure out what is the cause.
Why the printer cannot recognise that the paper in the tray is A4 Paper ???

printer knows what it is set to have.
Are you routing it to correct tray with form size/papertype needed ?

OVRPRTF file(printfile) drawer(99) is for manual feed .MP feed is 98.

Given a printer panel message, then you know it is being told in the print stream to change paper.

If your print definition on the iseries states that this print should be on plain paper then the printer will receive the command every time it receives a file.

Check the settings of the printer file you are using. especially the paper type, size, and tray commands. If your labels are (by default) a weird size, then you may be getting a default instruction too.

Be wary of globally altering the reply list - in 6 months everyone has forgotten, and you get more weird issues about the printer not stopping for a paper change.

But i am still have problem with the multipurpose tray.
It keep asking to load A4 paper when there is already A4 paper there.

The printer panel indicate load A4 paper.
Is it normal that we had to press the button on the printer to continue for every page if it printing from the multpurpose tray ?

Is it the printer problem or the AS400 problem ?

Just guessing maybe
either the printfle drawer attribute is telling it to print from the multipurpose tray
or the internal set up on the printer has been changed so it thinks the MP feeder is drawer 1 or 2 or ??? .
The printfile attribute for drawer should be enough to print from the correct tray. If the same size/type is set up at printer level most printers will pull from the secondary tray with same form if the first is empty. Can you post the printer level tray settings? was the printer connected at the time it was created on the 400. If you do not have the tray selected set up with A4 the printer may be over riding to MP and sending a verify type message. We do send some unique reports to MP and by sending to drawer 98 and if paper is in the feeder they just print with no attendance needed.

I try many setting and fund one strange outcome.

Setup 1
I setup the printer over the network.
Then Setup the AS400 printer session and link to this printer
Then i print to tray 2.
The outcome is that it will print from MP tray, BUT the prompt to change paper show up again and for every page need to answer to the message on the printer panel.

Setup 2
Setup the printer using USB
Then Setup the AS400 printer session and link to this printer
Then i print to tray 1.
The outcome is that it will print from MP tray, For the first printing, printer panel prompt message to change paper, then for the subsequence no message, just print.

Very strange outcome.
They are using the same printer driver but difference outcome.
Anyone encounter this kind of strange issue ?
