I have an end user who has a problem with Word 2007. When he clicks on the X to close word it freezes word and he cannot close the application (except with task Manager). This only effects word (Excel, PPT and Outlook are fine). I've looked all over the Web and haven't found much. 1. There are no add ins causing the problem 2. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2007 3. I tried doing a system restore to a previous time when the X closed Word (this failed) 4. I've turned off anti virus The only thing I've read is that creating a new profile fixes the problem. I'm lazy and I don't want to go through that mess (he has a few Virtual Machines on his current profile). Any ideas were to go next?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Make sure this doesn’t happen with another account on the same computer. BUT this does sound like a user profile issue. Creating a new profile can take less time than reinstalling office. Just do the following:
1. Login as Administrator
2. Rename his Documents and Settings folder.
3. Reboot.
4. Have the user login.
5. Move over favorites and and desktop icons.

Good suggestion by Mshen. You may also check if the same thing happens when the user uses File >> Close option.
