How can I find out the cause of a delay of 15-30 seconds when a Word2003 wndow is reactivated, e.g., after moving to another Word or other appl'n window and back again; the word window is dead, not even cursor flashing, for this delay. No HD activity. No virus checking message. It does NOT apply to dialogs opened by the Word window itself, e.g., file save. It DOES apply to clicking on the Close box!! There IS a similar delay when opening a document AFTER the virus check (AVG AV). Windows XP SP2, by the way.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

first thing you can do is before closing that window get into task manager and look at your processes. sort them by CPU usage. Then close the window and see what is taking up all the cpu cycles.

you could also disable your page file, defragment the drive, then re-enable the page file so that it creates one contiguous page file for faster access.

let us know what you find!
