Dear Sir or Madam:
The most obvious jobs for somebody with your background would be one of the satellite communications companies such as Comcast, DirectTV, and most of the major communications carriers. You should probably also consider the prospect of settling in the Washington, DC, metro area and see if there are job opportunities with any of the defense contracting companies (aka “Beltway Bandits”) with an emphasis in your area. If you have any kind of security clearance, civilians with a military background *AND* clearance are in extremely high demand right now. Thus, a quick look around at what’s available in the DC area is probably your best first step in deciding what to do when you take off the uniform and return to civilian life. You might want to look for high-tech recruiters in the DC area, or start reading the technical classifieds in the Washington Post as a good place to start…
I’m not aware of too many certifications that focus on satcomm stuff, but many of the WAN-oriented credentails from Cisco, Nortel, Lucent, and so forth, include satellite technology coverage as part of their curriculum.
HTH, and thanks for posting. Good luck in making your transition.
