Wireless routers
I have just moved into an apartment in NY. I have an iMac G5 and a work laptop running Vista. I want to set up a wireless network and am considering routers. As the imac is some distance from the modem I will need an antennae of some description. Any suggestions?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

You can use a wireless access point to set up a wireless network, you don’t need a router to set up a small network. The best thing you can use is a lynksys access point. If you specify the distance of the imac sutiable wireless range extender can be suggested.

The advantage of using a combination access point/router is that you can setup different subnets on either side of the router and perform some enhanced security filtering. Just another means of providing layered defenses.

You may use any consumer brand wireless access point. Some well known brands include Linksys, Netgear and D-Link. High-gain and directional antennas can be used to help boost the signal.
