Dear Sir's,
I have two wireless bridges. Master and Slave which are 800 ft apart and two high gain antennas are attached to these units. I am finding a disconnection problem with these bridges. It works for a while but gets disconnected and after doing powercycle on the slave end the bridge starts working once again. Please advise what needs to be done in this issue.
Try changing the channels on both bridges, one on ch. 1 while the other on ch. 11, or something similar. Else, you might also want to consider updating the firmware on bridge in question

If you live outside the United States, by submitting your email address you consent to having your personal data transferred to and processed in the United States.
I would ensure first that you have the latest updates in both units. I had a similar problem with a model of wireless modem/routers instantly cured with a system update in every instance.
Some slaves are can go to sleep when no traffic has been received for a while. This is to the reduce the time the master spends scanning for slaves and let it concentrate on the slaves that are sending data. The problem is that sometimes they don’t wake up.
As Arron25 has correctly said, look for firmware updates for the units and update them. Make sure that you get the correct version for your units i.e. there may be firmware just for the base station or just for the slave.
If there are no firmware updates, download the current version, do a full reset (usually holding a reset button for 10 or secs) and reload the firmware clean. (I’ve had to do this several times)
A final tip, read very carefully the readme or erratta notes before doing this. If you’ve skipped a couple of updates, you may have to install 2 or 3 of them to fix the problem.
Have you done a simple site survey to determine which 802.11b/g channels are already used? You really want to use channel 1, 6, or 11. All the other channels overlap adjacent channels and reduce throughput.
What brand/model of bridge are you using?
What encryption are you using?
What antennas and cables are you using?
Do you have clear line of sight between the two locations?
Do you have UPS power on both ends?
When the units “disconnect, does the master station still see the slave as “associated” and does the slave still think it is connected to the master?
Everyone else has covered the firmware, so I don’t need to go there.
On both the bridges i am running the latest f/w and also i am using channel 11 on both the ends but still problem exists.
MR.Padapa,
i am using the 3-com bridges.
we dont have any encryption on both the units.
i am using omni-directional antenna on master unit and a bi-directional antenna on slave unit.
i don’t have UPS power on both ends.
Yes, I have a clear line of site between two units.
when disconnection happens it looks
connectivity exists but no data transfer takes place.
regards,
G

Most of the time this is caused by firmware.
