I want to provide minimum priviliedges to "GUEST" account in windows XP service pack 2. I dnt want guest account to access my hard drive partition. does anybody know the solution

In order for the guest account to be able to log into the machine it will need some basic access to the C drive. You can revoke it’s access to any other hard drives on the machine.

You shouldn’t change the permissions on the C drive as it may stop the computer from working, the default XP Permissions should only allow read and execute permissions. If this is a problem for the system (especially if it’s your system) then I’d suggest you create another system for the guest account to log into and use.

    my rule of thumb is to have the guest account disabled. that way no one is using it at all.

    I agree, normally the Guest account shouldn't be used. But if it needs to be used, then you have to be careful with what rights you remove from it.

    You should disable or rename the guest account. It is also possible to create a new user account and add it to the guests group.
