If worse comes to worse, you can save the license key, you can find many sites on the net to help you with that, and start from scratch. That would be my absolute last gasp attempt.

I think yours problem is to try upgrate sp2 automatically and for some reason it can not work.Beside, you can not upgrate to sp2 if you don’t have a Windows XP official version.
Try someting below.Goodluck!
1.Try to manual download Windows XP SP2 from Microsoft windows update and install it manually
2.or you can go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx to order a free Windows XP SP2 CD

What photographic program he is trying to upgrade. Usually everyone else is correct with upgradeing to SP2 its a new upgrade. There shouldnt be any problem, from older xp only if the OS was 98 and below. 2000 and beyond are cool. My question goes to the graphic program. That might be older then xp and you might have to check the website for that program to see if it is xp compliant. Take care.

I’ve upgraded many xp system to XP SP2. Just be aware that the default installtion changes the security levels of shares and internet access. Basically, it closes off everything as the default and you have to go through Security Console to SPECIFY that you want to have open access to the the network shares and the internet, and what level of intereaction you wish to grant. I’ve done the Cooperate License upgrades from the original version to SP2 and they all went fine also. Good luck, just pay attention to what shares, and connections currently exist on the system, and consult the user.

he did try the sp upgrade from the windows update site and that didnt take for some reason.

It’s better, if u update your Older version from the Microsoft site windows update through net connection..It evaluate first your running version and according to that it will create all list of patches and hot fix. Try this, i think it will work.

He has a program for photo editing that he is trying to upgrade but it says he needs xp upgraded to run the program but he figured that sp 2 would solve his problem.
