I recently installed XP SP2 in a branch office on three PCs. Two of the PCs of the same model (Gateway 500L) are having problems printing to their HP LaserJet 4200n printer. The third (Gateway 500C) is having no problem. The problem the two are experiencing are extreme slowness of printing. I've changed the driver on one of those PCs to an HP 4100 driver and the printing quickens significantly. Is there a problem with SP2 and that model printer driver?

It was a common problem in windows service pack or
patch. The new patch/driver may not correctly
identify your hardware. (They always use the same version number on different library only different in date of creation.) Go to you hardware vendor
website and download their latest driver and install it.

have you tried the latest drivers for the printer??? if not try the other way aswell, some old drivers can work better (no idea why)
Just my 2 cent’s….
Thanks for all the responses! To answer questions, I did get the latest driver from HP. I do not, however, have the CD. The branch office in question is remote, in another state so I didn’t have it. I can give that a try.
I have had similar problems with the 4300 DTN models of this Laser Printer.
I updated with the latest drivers and still had problems.
We service around the same number of xp workstations through a win2k server with active directory.
We had the slowness and the printers used to print out garbage some times as well.
As this was affecting all printers as well as the 4300 dtn’s I restarted the print spooler service and tcip print services on the server and the speed and reliability came back to the printers.
It may not help you buy you may want to try it if you have not so far.
