Can anyone confirm or deny that Windows XP home edition can not participate in an MS windows environment with a domain. i.e. I want to join a pc running windows xp home edition to an MS windows 2000 domain.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Windows XP Home was designed not to join a domain. If you want to join a domain you must install Windows XP Pro/Corp.

I made the mistake of buying some XP Home PCs for our NT4 network. It was possible to make them part of a Workgroup with the same name as our domain; one designated user can map drives and use network printers, but the functionality is limited: you can't switch users easily, networked anti-virus won't update automatically, etc. Unfortunately M$ don't seem to have brought out a simple upgrade disk. Use the XP Home machine at home and buy XP Pro for the network - or consider moving to Linux...
