We have few windows xp professional version 2002 (sp2) clients connected to a domain. When trying to copy files from local disk C: to D: we get the following error "Error copying file or folder cannot copy d: The folder is empty" We have logged into the local machine as administrator. Can you help? Note: from a Windows 2000 professional client we can copy file between the local disk of windows xp client

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

I read this as you are trying to copy from a local C drive across to a Local D drive on the SAME machine.
But the last line really has confused me, maybe you can rephrase that comment.
Is the drive new to the machine? If so try changing the drive letter (presuming no data on the disk yet) or even go into Disk management and confirm the disk is showing and set up correctly. Now if its not a drive and D is your CDROM – did you have a correctly formated CD in the drive? Check device manager and confirm it is installed correctly. Place a known copy of something into the drive and see if you can access the data. Check the basics its normally the cause.

Now if D was a network mapped drive or something please me know and I’ll try again

I am trying to copy files on the same machine between two logical drives. Two basic NTFS partition with logical drive name C and D. I can create new files on these disks. Only when I use explorer /cmd prompt to copy files from C to D it give the error. The last line explanation. I tried to access the xp machine from windows 2000 professional clinet. eg from run prompt open two windows as \ws0001c$ and\ws001d$ and the copy files, it works. Hope this clarifies your doubt.
